Benthic Solutions
Ian Wilson is the Owner and Director of several marine science-related companies including Benthic Solutions Limited and sits on the board of EEEGR as an elected Director.
Ian has been at the forefront of developments within the commercial marine scientific industry for over 32 years. He was the founder and director at Gardline Environmental based in Great Yarmouth, and later founded his current company Benthic Solutions Limited, based in Hoveton and Wroxham, in 2004. These positions were instrumental in the development of marine sciences in the Oil and Gas Industry whilst Ian pioneered the design and development of modern environmental survey techniques and equipment, now routinely used throughout the survey Industry worldwide. This included the development of multi-disciplinary survey techniques for habitat mapping, the development and extensive use of digital subsea cameras, and the development a benthic processing systems and numerous specialist samplers for operations in shallow and ultra-deep waters.
Ian has a passion for innovation within commercial marine sciences and has extensive interest in environmental, oceanographic, geochemical and geophysical survey techniques. In 2014, Ian founded Applied Genomics Limited, a company uniquely providing commercial eDNA services to the marine survey industry and acquired a Southampton-based consultancy, Subacoustech Environmental Limited in 2015, specialising in underwater acoustic modelling, monitoring and mitigation. His interest continues in the pursuit of innovation and scientific integration.
Despite working all over the globe, Ian’s commitment to the East Anglian region has remained very strong, culminated in the construction of new science park based at their head offices in Hoveton, completed in 2021. Ian hopes to bring a more-scientific expertise to the EEEGR board and further the regions reputation as a centre-of-excellence for the commercial marine sciences. Ian has lived in Wroxham for over 30 years with his wife and 3 children.
