Co-opted Director
Shell UK Ltd
: Special Projects Lead ONEgas West (Southern North Sea)
Fergus is a seasoned leader in the energy sector, with over 26 years’ experience working in upstream oil and gas. Originally from Suffolk, Fergus carved out an international career with Shell, joining them as a graduate operations engineer in the Netherlands before taking on roles in the US, Malaysia and Denmark.
Fergus began working for Shell’s UK SNS gas assets in 2014, leading the well and reservoir management team from the Netherlands, before moving to Norfolk in 2017 to become a Production Manager. Fergus now has a strategy role, determining amongst other things how these assets will meet their GHG emission reduction targets and the long-term strategy for late life asset management and decommissioning.
Fergus is passionate about promoting UK domestic hydrocarbon gas as a key part of the energy mix through the energy transition, including making the most of carbon capture and storage opportunities. He is also keen to see the East region build capability to support the coming wave of hydrocarbon facility decommissioning activities. Having been involved with EEEGR for a number of years, including recently working in the Gas Transition Sector Council Net Zero Working Group, he firmly believes that it is the right body to bring the energy sector and the region together on these issues. He is delighted to take a more formal role in EEEGR to help sustain the energy industry in this region.
