Jennifer Cushion is a highly accomplished director with a wealth of experience in the energy sector. As the Managing Director of Fern Communications Ltd, she has demonstrated leadership skills and a deep understanding of various energy supply chains, ranging from Oil & Gas to Offshore Renewables, Biomass, and Nuclear. Jennifer’s expertise in long-range communications in challenging environments has been instrumental in designing effective radio communication systems for offshore wind farms.
Jennifer embarked on her radio communications journey following the completion of her Electronic Engineering studies at RMIT in Australia. Her six-year tenure with the Australian Civil Aviation Authority provided her with invaluable experience and introduced her to the principles of long-range communications. This formative period laid a solid foundation for her subsequent career in the energy sector.
In 1989, Jennifer relocated to the United Kingdom, where she continued to excel in the industry. She currently holds a position as an elected Director on the board of EEEGR (East of England Energy Group). Additionally, Jennifer serves as the Chair of the executive board of Suffolk Chamber in East Suffolk, showcasing her commitment to the local business community.
Jennifer’s dedication to promoting growth and collaboration extends beyond her roles in Fern Communications and EEEGR. She also contributes to the boards of East Coast Energy Training Academy Ltd (ECETA) and Swell Music CIC, demonstrating her passion for supporting diverse industries and community development.
Throughout her career, Jennifer has gained a comprehensive understanding of export and cross-border trade, thanks to her decade-long experience managing and training European distributors for Maxon Europe Ltd, a prominent Korean radio manufacturer. Her exposure to different cultures, politics, and business practices during this time further honed her skills in international trade.
While Jennifer is aware of the challenges faced by the energy sector, such as skills shortages, she firmly believes in addressing these issues through a focus on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). She advocates for creating a more inclusive environment within the industry, with a particular emphasis on encouraging more individuals from the East of England, especially women and girls, to pursue careers in energy.
