We regulate and influence the oil and gas, offshore hydrogen, and carbon storage industries. We help drive North Sea energy transition, realising the significant potential of the UK Continental Shelf as a critical energy and carbon abatement resource. We hold industry to account on reducing emissions.

Supply Chain:
The UK has a world-class supply chain which has provided the skills, services and pioneering technologies needed to deliver North Sea oil and gas in some of the harshest weather conditions for more than half a century. Those skills can be transferred to renewable energy and decarbonisation projects, such as offshore wind, carbon capture and storage and hydrogen.

The North Sea Transition Authority is using its powers and influence to help the supply chain evolve into a global leader in energy transition projects, while maintaining its lead in oil and gas exploration, production and decommissioning, supporting the UK’s energy security and anchoring tens of thousands of highly skilled and well-paid jobs in the UK.
