The Opportunity
The potential decommissioning opportunity for the region is huge, particularly onshore dismantling with an anticipated 40 individual offshore structures to be removed from the Southern North Sea over the next decade.
The Challenge
To keep the opportunity within the region using our own local expertise and the supporting supply chain – a combined effort from all stakeholders to demonstrate the ability we have is key to ensuring the opportunity stays within the region.
Raising Awareness
Following consultations with one of the major operators in the Southern North Sea and the North Sea Transition Authority – the regulatory body for oil and gas in the North Sea – EEEGR rallied for support from all SNS Operators, the local port providers, the local authorities and the key members of the supporting supply chain to facilitate a discussion on the opportunity and our ability to overcome the perceived challenges.
With the initial call for participants being overwhelmingly high, the first meeting was held on 25 September with representation from 30 organisations, all in favour of working together to progress this opportunity.
Next steps
Following a second meeting on 23rd October to discuss the next steps, a steering committee is in the process of being set up which will then be formed into one of EEEGR’s highly successful sector councils.
