Project Overview
Wood Group UK Limited is a global engineering and consulting company working across energy and materials markets. From its base at Orbis Energy in Lowestoft, Wood is looking to better understand future opportunities in East Anglia and how its existing expertise, digital solutions, and services could be applied locally.
This project focuses on market research, opportunity identification, and communication. The intern will help Wood understand where new opportunities may exist within its current client portfolio, where new local clients or partners could be found, and how Wood can better promote STEM learning and career opportunities to young people.
Project Aim
To support Wood’s strategy by exploring opportunities for growth and increased brand awareness in East Anglia through market research, identification of clients and partners, use of digital and technical solutions, and improved communication with young people.
Key Research Questions
• What work does Wood already carry out in East Anglia?
• What opportunities exist within Wood’s current client portfolio?
• Which new clients or partners could Wood work with locally, including organisations based at OrbisEnergy?
• What digital and technical solutions exist within the wider Wood organisation that could be used in East Anglia?
• How can Wood better promote STEM learning and local job opportunities to young people?
• How can media and communication be used to raise awareness of Wood as both a service provider and employer?
What You Will Do
• Carry out desk-based market research into Wood’s existing clients and services
• Explore internal resources such as Wood’s intranet to identify available digital and technical solutions
• Use external resources such as the NSTA Pathfinder and EEEGR to understand the local market
• Identify potential new clients or partners in East Anglia and the markets they operate in
• Investigate how Wood’s digital and technical solutions could be applied locally
• Develop a communication plan showing how media could be used to promote STEM learning and local job opportunities for young people
• Take part in interviews or discussions to support your research
