The official opening of Cavendish House on 17 September 2026 marks an exciting new chapter for ODE Asset Management – but the building’s name also takes the company back to where an important part of its journey began.
ODE is now 48 years old and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2028, with almost four decades of that history rooted in Great Yarmouth. While the company has a long-standing presence in the region, its operations business has evolved significantly over the past 20 years.
What began as an Operations & Maintenance (O&M) service has developed into the established duty holder organisation ODE is today.
There is a fitting connection between that journey and its new home. Cavendish was the first platform ODE provided O&M support to, followed by Babbage – which later became ODE’s first Duty Holder contract. An original advert from 2008 for ODE’s first OIM position is still kept today, offering a small but tangible reminder of how far the business has come.
When ODE’s operations journey began, the team was around 20 people and the business generated approximately £10 million in turnover.
Today, around 130 people form part of the operations team, generating approximately £60 million in turnover and collectively working around 25,000 hours every month.
The scale and breadth of the operation has grown alongside the team. ODE’s operations have the capability to produce up to 10% of the UK’s gas supply, while the business manages around 425 miles of pipeline and operates its own dedicated standby vessel.
Its helicopter operation transports around 6,000 people each year, travelling the equivalent distance of around 15 times around the world.
Yet behind the assets, infrastructure and impressive numbers are the people who make the operation work. Investment in their skills and development remains an important part of ODE’s approach, with around 1,100 training courses delivered every year and more than £350,000 invested annually in training and development – approximately £3,200 per person.
The opening of Cavendish House therefore represents more than a new base. It brings together ODE’s heritage, its growth and its future – with a name that serves as a reminder of the platforms, people and experience that have helped shape the business along the way.
From its first O&M work on Cavendish, through its first Duty Holder contract on Babbage, to the operation it has become today, ODE’s journey reflects almost two decades of growth, expertise and continued commitment to the energy industry – and to Great Yarmouth.
