Serene Safety is asking Norfolk businesses to help shape the future of Health & Safety training in the county, as we explore the potential for a dedicated Health & Safety Skills Academy in Norwich.
We speak to businesses across Norfolk every day, and one of the things we hear is that accessing the right Health & Safety training locally isn’t always easy.
While some courses are readily available, more practical training – such as confined spaces and working at height – can mean travelling further afield. That takes people away from the workplace for longer and adds additional time and cost to training.
So, we’re exploring whether Norfolk needs something closer to home.
Could Norwich have its own Health & Safety Skills Academy?
We’re looking at the possibility of creating a dedicated Health & Safety Skills Academy in Norwich, combining purpose-built practical training facilities with the NEBOSH and IOSH courses we already deliver.
The aim would be simple: to make it easier for businesses in Norfolk and the surrounding area to access high-quality Health & Safety training locally.
But we don’t want to create something based on what we think businesses need. We want to hear from the people who would actually use it.

We need Norfolk businesses to have their say
We’ve launched a short Norfolk Workplace Training & Skills Survey to understand what Health & Safety training local organisations are currently using and where the gaps might be.
We’d particularly like to hear from people responsible for Health & Safety, training, people development or managing teams.
The survey asks about:
- The Health & Safety training your organisation currently uses
- The types of training you find difficult to access locally
- Where your team currently travels for training
- The skills and training you expect to need in the future
- What would make a local training facility genuinely useful to your organisation
It takes just 2–3 minutes to complete, but the responses will play an important part in deciding whether we take the Skills Academy forward and what it could look like.
What will happen with the research?
Once the research is complete, we’ll bring the findings together into our Norfolk Workplace Training & Skills Insights Report.
Everyone who completes the survey will receive a copy of the report, providing insight into what other Norfolk employers are experiencing, the training challenges they face and where future skills needs may be heading.
As an additional thank you, everyone who takes part will also be entered into a draw to win £1,000 of Serene Safety training credits.
