It’s no secret that prioritising wellbeing is essential — yet in today’s fast-paced work environment, many struggle to maintain it. Despite general agreement on its importance, employees often find themselves trapped in back-to-back meetings, quick on-the-go meals, and long hours at their desks, blurring the lines between work and personal time.
Recent statistics highlight the urgent need for change. Sickness absence related to poor mental health and wellbeing has been steadily increasing, with the number of sick days doubling over the past six years. This rise translates to an estimated £30 billion in annual costs for UK businesses, averaging nearly £3,000 per employee.
While recruitment remains a priority for many companies, retaining skilled workers has become equally critical. Regular medical check-ups are becoming standard practice; however, evidence suggests that without structured wellbeing programmes, only 10-20% of employees achieve sustained lifestyle improvements. This figure leaps to 70% when employees participate in a guided, comprehensive wellbeing initiative.
Addressing this need, Tide Wellbeing recently held a preview event at OrbisEnergy, introducing its innovative lifestyle intervention programme. The session featured expert speakers in mental health, burnout prevention, sleep management, and nutrition, who provided valuable insights and practical strategies for improving employee wellbeing.
Nutritional expert Catherine Jeans emphasized the importance of balanced blood sugar levels, essential vitamins and minerals, and the benefits of consuming a diverse range of plant-based foods — advocating for a “rainbow” of 30 different plants each week. Dr Amy-Jo Farrow outlined how to identify and prevent burnout, sharing actionable tools and techniques to manage stress effectively. Solution-focused therapist Lee Duguay explored the brain’s response to anxiety, teaching participants how to recognise triggers, regulate emotions, and harness neuroplasticity to challenge negative thought patterns. The day concluded with a guided sleep meditation to promote restful nights.
The Tide Wellbeing programme begins with a non-invasive body scan to assess predictive health biomarkers. Participants then engage in a wellbeing day featuring face-to-face expert coaching and medical guidance, followed by a 12-week digital journey filled with themed content, challenge videos, and goal-setting exercises. An optional follow-up scan helps measure progress.
Thanks to the generous support of Tom Beales and Armultra Limited, Cafe 1903, and the expert speakers, the event offered attendees a much-needed opportunity to pause, reflect, and recharge.
The first cohort of the Tide Wellbeing programme will launch in September. Interested organisations and individuals are encouraged to get involved.
