The east of England celebrated its pioneering and leading role in offshore wind at RUKGOW25, which has led to exporting its experience and skills across the globe.
Campaigning for the might of the east to be at the forefront of decision and policymakers’ minds stepped up another gear this week as the region’s businesses turned out in force at RenewableUK’s Global Offshore Wind.
The East of England pavilion – a partnership between EEEGR, Eastwind, GENERATE and Insight Energy and sponsored by ScottishPower Renewables and RWE – showcased some of the best of the region with exhibitors:
- Armultra
- Freeport East
- PPI Engineering
- Proeon Systems Ltd
- Peel Ports Group
- Reuzer
- Stowen
- Waves Group
Our strong presence is the latest phase of our campaign to make the east heard and seen nationally and internationally.
Already generating 5GW of clean, green, home grown energy off our coast, with 8.3GW in the pipeline by 2030, the region is the leading hub for supporting global development.
People gathered at our east of England Pavilion on day one of the event to hear from developers and port operators about future plans.
💡Sophie Skipp from Equinor described how the east of England skills export was influencing global development using the example of Ross McMillan, who began his career as one of the first technicians at Sheringham Shoal and is now Operations Director at Empire Wind in New York.
💡Daniel Edwards of Peel Ports Group said the developing O&M base for RWE’s Norfolk offshore wind projects will lead to expansion of operations and a far busier and bigger Great Yarmouth port.
💡 Marc Adams from Ørsted highlighted the huge journey the supply chain had come on with the escalating scale of technology.
💡Harriet Copley of Associated British Ports outlined the £35m investment in the LEEF project at hashtag#lowestoft port where 5,400 vessels call each year.
💡MikeSomerville of ScottishPower Renewables spoke of the concurrent construction programmes for East Anglia THREE and East Anglia TWO, which together will power the equivalent of nearly 2.3m homes.
💡Steve Beel from Freeport East explained its role in attracting investment in jobs around its main development sites across Suffolk and Essex.
Thank you to ScottishPower Renewables and RWE for sponsoring us all to put our ambitious region in the map.
