This week’s green light for Sizewell C marked a defining moment for the UK’s energy future.
For our region, it gives certainty for a decade long project that will deliver thousands of jobs during construction, permanent jobs and huge investment in the supply chain for a project that will run for nearly a century delivering homegrown, low-carbon power.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer travelled to Suffolk to speak about the vital role Sizewell C will play in unlocking local potential, creating jobs, and driving economic growth.
He met school pupils and apprentices learning how the project is already opening up opportunities for people of all ages across the region when he visited Suffolk New College.
Managing director Julia Pyke announced on our SNS2025 stage that Sizewell C would be building a further education college at Leiston with Suffolk New College to deliver training for people in rural areas.
Green lighting Sizewell C was one of our key five asks of the government for our House of Commons reception and this year.
EEEGR member and director Tom Beales played a part in this week’s media story by telling the ‘story behind the story’ about what the project means to businesses supplying to supply services to Sizewell C – local investment, new jobs, training and retraining.
We organised BBC Look East’s Robby West to visit Tom at Armultra in Great Yarmouth – set up by his father, Colin, 40 years ago – to film the team working on refrigeration units for Hinkley Point C and talk about how they hope to do the same at Sizewell C, and what that contract would mean.
EEEGR works with the media to help the wider public understand the positive impact energy infrastructure projects have on local businesses and communities by awarding local contracts that create jobs and bring wider community benefits.
Thanks to Tom for making himself available early on the day of announcement and helping to bring the story to life for the supply chain on behalf of EEEGR.
