Decom Mission’s Second Decom Survey to “tell it as it is”

Decom Mission, the only trade body focused solely on late life and decommissioning in the energy sector has launched its second annual survey of the global oil & gas, nuclear and renewables decommissioning community, including asset owners and operators, the supply chain and other stakeholders.

Developed and delivered by data science expert and Decom Mission member, Empirisys, the survey is designed to provide primary insight into current capability, capacity, sentiment, readiness and perceived ability to learn from previous projects. The resulting report is due for publication during Decom Week 2025, taking place in Aberdeen this May.

Reflecting on the insight gained from the survey’s 2024 edition, Decom Mission CEO, Sam Long, believes that the organisation is in the very best position to accurately reflect the state of play:

“Decom Mission has long been trusted as the champion of decommissioning in the energy sector. It is our role to offer an independent, fair and honest appraisal of decommissioning across the oil and gas, nuclear and renewable industries.

“Our annual survey is open to members and non-members alike and is designed to map the good and bad of our markets, the opportunities and challenges. Much has changed in the last twelve months, and we aim to compare current status with that of our benchmark in 2024.

“Last year I frequently talked of the threat of externalities and in 2025 I find myself observing on unintended consequences. Macro politics and economics have changed substantially in the last twelve months, elections have been held, and policies have changed, creating uncertainty and, arguably, bigger challenges in the energy sector – just as it tries to gain momentum in the Energy Transition.

“Working once again with member company, Empirisys, this survey will collate answers on behalf of industry – join us to share your thoughts and observations in order that we can feedback to you all.”

This year’s survey, open to all parties, is available here. Closing date for submissions is 31 March 2025.
