The Planning Inspectorate has accepted North Falls Offshore Wind Farm’s Development Consent Order (DCO) application for examination, marking a significant step forward for the project.

North Falls, a 50/50 joint venture between RWE Offshore Wind and SSE Renewables, submitted the DCO application in July 2024. The project is now entering the pre-examination phase, with the examination expected to begin in early 2025.

Project Director Andy Paine expressed optimism, highlighting North Falls’ potential to contribute to the UK’s net zero goals, create local jobs, and boost the supply chain. He also acknowledged the valuable feedback from local communities and stakeholders, which has shaped the project over the past six years.

North Falls is an extension of the existing 504 MW Greater Gabbard Offshore Wind Farm. If approved, it could generate up to 1 GW of power, supporting the UK government’s target of 50 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.

The examination process is expected to last up to six months, with a final decision anticipated by the end of 2025. Interested parties will soon be able to submit their views on the project via the Planning Inspectorate’s website.
