On Wednesday 17th July, EEEGR Chair Kevin Keable attended Freeport East and The University of Essex’s event ‘Building Harwich’s Innovation Cluster’ at The Waterfront, Harwich. He joined local business leaders and councillors to discuss steps to be taken to support the town’s progress to becoming a national leader in clean energy, including the potential for a new iconic multi-million-pound innovation hub.

Kevin said, “I really enjoyed last week’s well attended event. I met lots of people who we will be collaborating with on our Tendring Future Skills project and heard how innovation could transform new business in the Harwich area – great presentation by Jonathan Reynolds of EEEGR Members Opergy. There are lots of opportunities around Freeport East, not least the Sewage to Sustainable Aviation Fuel project at Haltermann Carless refinery – this is a fascinating project.”

Based on a report by Opergy Group, commissioned through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and overseen by the University of Essex and Freeport East, the report identifies Harwich as a prime location for bringing together a cluster of forward-thinking businesses and organisations involved in clean energy and related sectors to drive forward economic growth in the area.
