Key Sectors

Over the last five decades, the East of England has been the centre of one of the world’s most productive energy industries. It has a well-established “all energy” base that embraces oil, gas, nuclear power and renewables amongst other technologies.

As such, the region already plays host to a diverse and vibrant mix of businesses working in the sector. Given that such a diverse energy sector already exists in the East of England, the area is ideally situated to deliver on the government’s energy priorities.

Skills for Energy (SfE) is one of our core programmes here at EEEGR. It is led by industry, with the main goal of ensuring ongoing diversity and volume of skilled individuals to support the current and future needs of the energy sector in the east.

The programme focusses on delivering skilled people to the industry for long-term careers, ensuring the existing workforce continues to meet the industry’s growing needs. The project revolves around addressing the core skills needed across each sector of the industry, both technical and commercial. The programme does this with collaborative partnerships, supported by OPITO and ECITB.
